Missing Miri

There were times in your life when you would keep looking to a point of your past as that point gave you the the best part of your life journey. Same goes to me, when it comes to my internship in Miri. How am I supposed to forget all the memories when...

The place no longer makes dogs a taboo for you..
-Kebun Ayah Sya, October 2010

You're visiting a new place just for the sake of new experience, but you end up having a photograph with Maher Zain..
-Masjid Sultan Hasanal Bolkiah, Brunei, July 2010

Your lecturer has been telling you about the nodding donkey in the class, but now you have the real machine working 5 meters from you..
-Brunei, July 2010

Your friends make a surprise birthday celebration while having breakfast at mamak's restaurant when jungle-trekking is the only thing that plays in your mind..
-Mamak restaurant, Bintulu, 27 November 2010

You're too excited to throw a surprise birthday celebration to someone close in the thick Borneo Rainforest, so you wrap the birthday cake with a non-see-through plastic..

Not knowing the waterfall you're heading to would take you an hour of ups and downs the hill.. So the SR Raspberry Cake you bought ends up melt in the box and left you with this..

But still, the mission is on.. So you take the ugly cake to the birthday girl who was having fun in the water (got this planned as well)..

..but unexpectedly, the birthday girl ends up happy with the surprise, and the ugly birthday cake as well! :)
-Athirah's birthday, Nibong waterfall, Lambir Hills National Park

When you have friends who can sing well (with a not-so-well facial expression while singing), who can sing not-so-well-but-quite-OK (haha), and play guitar well..

And you enjoy being the cameraman and director for the video clip..

When hiking is the only option that you have to entertain yourself..
-Dinding waterfall, Lambir Hills National Park

... but the friendships, and the green views that you have, are just worthwhile :)
-Dinding waterfall, Lambir Hills National Park

When you think that baling selipar is the best game; rather than your FB Cupcakes.
- Pantai Bungai, Bekenu

- Sarawak Shell 100 years Anniversary Celebration - Treasure Hunt dry run
When you and your team are instructed to build the highest replica of platform for the sake of completing a task in a treasure hunt contest, your team come up with this;

This one is SPAR anyway, replicating this;

Same tak? Haha

When you and your friends are convinced that part-time modelling is the best job for you, despite the other things you're really up to.
- Oil Spill Exercise, Pantai Lutong

When weekend outing is a must :)

And watching sunset with your friends is part of your weekend activity..
- Tanjung Lobang, Miri

And despite of all the workloads, the friendship is still there :)

Now tell me how I'm supposed to forget all these memories?

Pangkor Trip : Part 3 and a half

Sorry for the previous post. Hish!

Let's start it over again.

********************************

"Err I can't remember anything" sambil tergelak bodo2.

"Come on, you should try. You know, the best way to learn a language is by speaking the language itself"

Mulia.

Keesokan harinya,

Saturday
January 16, 2010

The weather seemed unpleasant. Dark clouds wandered upon the Pangkor sky, brought a gloomy feeling inside. Sedih, banyak plan hari ni. But if hujan, nak buat ape kan? So we walked for a while around the small pekan, and I bought a pants. Then we had breakfast in the villa we were staying in, as we were worried that the weather would have us caught in the rain later. So we just played safe, we had breakfast at our place lah.

Good morning Pangkor!

And this was my stupid morning meal. These 2 toasts, stupid scrambled egg, PLANTA (yang paling tak boleh blah) and jem murah cost me RM7.50. Oh, this stupid set comes with a cup coffee too. Tapi takpelah, we had no other options (-.-)

It was raining when we were having our breakfast so we ate lambat2 then the hujan pun berhenti. We went to the neighboring resort to rent a bicycle as our place didn't provide such services (what urrrh!

But cycling in Pangkor was not an easy job as you know lah kan, pulau banyak bukit. We actually planned to cycle to Jeti Pangkor but the bukit2 and all made us asal naik bukit je kami turun balik. Bile turun, pegi jalan lain, jumpe bukit lagi, kami turun balik (-.-') So that was how we spent our time with the bicycles. Turun naik bukit je (-.-') And, our friend Ai muntah akibat mendaki bukit curam tu dengan menaiki basikal. See how sakit we all were (-_-)

Moments before Ai puked.

Then we went to our favorite beach spot. Duduk duduk menenangkan Ai yang kemuntahan tadi.

Ai dan basikal.

Feeling like bosan-bosan, we built a sand castle. Eh no lah! It was a sand university! :D

Sand university in progress.

And this is UTP - Universiti Teknologi Pangkor theee

After zohor, grand plan; akitiviti air oooyeah!

Boat ride to Pulau Giam : snorkeling.

And tadaaaaa dah sampai Pulau Giam: the best spot in Teluk Dalam for snorkeling activity.

Sebelum kebasahan.

To tell you the truth, the snorkeling spot in Pulau Giam was nothing much interesting. But to me as a first-timer, having the kawan2 nemo 2 inches in front of me was something great! I fed them roti while doing snorkeling, and to my surprise, the ikan even knocked my goggle chasing the bits of roti! Oh sangatlah friendly diorang tu sumee.

But there was something unexpected happened to me;

I got swollen eyes and,

an eye internal bleeding too :(

Pangkor Trip : Part 2

... Continued ...
*continuation from previous post, Pangkor Trip : Part 1

"Hi, do you want me to take your picture?"

Ai Ima and me were startled.

"Errrm yes, please" I said, passing him Ima's camera.

"1.. 2.. smilee.."

Click!

And this is the result. Ima's hands saying "Ouch!"

"Nah amek ni. Have a look at it and tell me if you want to take it over again" he said, passing me the camera.

"No, this is fine. Thanx"

"You know, you don't have to jump or climb a tree to get a nice picture". He gave us a sarcastic smile and did a 'monkey' act. OK, this guy had been obviously observing us - blame Ima for the jumping pose, please!

Then he had his hands playing around with his goggle.

Being shocked with everything that just happened, we just laughed hahahahaaa

"So, where are you coming from?"

"Me? I'm from Algeria... and I'm an author."

"Wow, that sounds nice"

"I write books about traveling and previously I was in the Borneo. I climbed up the Mount Ki...emm mount.."

"Kinabaluu"

"Yeah, Kinabalu with my 25kilos backpack" and again, he showed us how he carried his backpack with him and made a funny face. So comel la this fella. Haha. "I've been here in Pangkor for 4 days and I'm going back tomorrow bla bla bla". He told us soooo many things about the place. He showed us the owner of the operating stall, and even told us what he knew about the owner. Doing that way, he made us feel like we're foreigner and he's the local there (-_-)

And not long after that, he went back to his place and seconds after that, again, he came to us.

"Emm do you know where Algeria is?"

Oh noo, please Mr. Algeria, don't make us seem stupid. Believe me, Malaysians are not stupid. Malaysia is a developing country and we do learn Geography. It's just the 3 girls in front of you don't have much time to study the globe the atlas and all sorts (-.-)

"Is it in the west of Asia?" I gave my stupid guess and he shook his head. "Nope"

Please, I really need a thinking cap. I was like, being in a reality show brought to you live from Pangkor. The beach sands as the seat, the wide sea as the audience, the tree branch as the recording camera, the wave sound as the buzzer and having Ima and Ai as my rivals (-.-) Whattaa. I roughly know where America is, where France is, where the UK is, where Africa is, where Canada is, proficient with the Asian countries, but this Algeria, I only can imagine that it is somewhere between the west of Asia and the Europe (-.-) Sound dumb wasn't I?

He just laughed, and asked us to google for Algeria when we get back (-_-) Ok, no right answer this time. Stupido.

Next question he gave us was "Do you know which language do we use in Algeria?"

Ok, tadi tu Geo. Now you're giving us general knowledge pulak? Hmmmm.

"English?"

"Emm emm" he gave a half nod and a half shake.

Then I went "Is it Arabic?", thinking that the answer must be either the 3 main world languages; English, Arabic and French.

"Yes! You get 10 marks for that." See? He was giving us questionnaires just to make us feel like being in a quiz show! That was funny. "In Algeria we speak Arabic, English, and also French bla bla bla"

Hearing the word french, I went "Danc, tu peux parler le francais?"; testing my long-time-no-practice french ie. dare to die.

He said "Ouiiii bien sur!" and some other things that I couldn't really understand the ascent (-.-) "Now tell me about yourself in french"

Mati aku! Sekarang soalan bahasa pulak!

"Je m'apple bla bla. J'ai vingt et un ans bla bla bla bla j'habite bla bla bla" waaaaaa sungguh menyesal memulakan perbualan dalam bahasa perancis itu. Huhu. Sangatlah sakit otak walaupun untuk mengeluarkan secebis perkataan basic perancis (-,-)

From that moment he knew that I can speak french, whenever we met, he would speak french with me. At that night, when Ai Ima and me were walking around the small town, we met him again. We were sitting by the road, and he came to us and said to me "Tell me what you did today in french"

To be continued...

Pangkor Trip : Part 1

3 days in Pangkor was great. That holds the title of my entry this time ;)

************************

We've never thought of this before; going to Pangkor though the Lumut jetty is just 90 minutes away from UTP and it takes you about 15 minutes to reach Pangkor Island by ferry. This heaven on earth is just sooo close to us and I have no idea why did my friend and I had never think of getting any trip to Pangkor before this! But this time, Ai, Ima and I were unstoppable decided that

PANGKOR IS A MUST FOR THIS HOLIDAY OIYEAAAHH

Sounds nice to us, of course :D

Jan 15, 2010 Friday

We took a bus from Taman Maju around 1100am, with a help from Ima's friend (and with a minor harassment from an unknown psycho guy. He was neat-attired, got his blue collared T-shirt tucked in, a black belt neatly done up around his waist AND some obvious missing teeth too haha). The ride to Lumut cost us RM4.80.

Taman Maju bus stop. Ai, Ima and Fado.

This girl, she was going green that day.

Arrived Lumut Jetty around 1230pm, had our lunch at a restaurant owned by a TLDM retiree. The service there was totally satisfying; delicious, hygienic, cheap and friendly. A truly worth it.

My meal. Daging masak kicap and lettuce. Plus iced lemon tea, total RM4.20

Lumut jetty terminal.

We bought a 2-way ticket which cost RM10 and embarked on the ferry around 400pm with some other tourists. And there were 3 never-been-to-Pangkor-for-a-holiday's acting like monkeys on the ferry; went here and went there, snapped here and snapped there, posed here and posed there and, I was one of the monkeys too (-.-')

Monkeys on ferry. Oh, that hat, RM10.

As we arrived in Pangkor, we took a taxi to take us to Nipah Bay and this costs each of us RM4 for the 6km-ride. We checked-in at Nipah Bay Villa; our homestay for the next 2 nights. Each one of us paid RM53 for that economy room of 2 nights stay. Yes it might be small, but that was never a problem to us. We just admired the cute room as it provided us everything; air-conditioner, hot shower, Astro and a queen sized bed-sufficient for an optimum comfort.

Arriving Pangkor.

In the pink van.

We did nothing that afternoon but had a walk around the small town of Nipah Bay and on the beach; just to have a day-view for the night plan. The beach which was closer to Nipah Bay Villa was OK I would say, but it was just too crowded with the service stalls (providing you the kayak, jet ski etc). The beach area was somehow undergoing a renovation process; which was quite an eye-sore to me.

Too many hanging ropes for the monkeys (^.^)

And this monkey chose this rope.

See the stalls behind us. Such an eye-sore right?

Walking to the neighboring beach took us about 10-15 minutes of snail styled walking (berlenggang kangkung). And here, voila! This was truly the foreign tourists' favorite spot! With a much wider and whiter shore, I wondered why weren't there many local tourists here. Yeah, maybe the locals are too shy too see those 'stuffs' kikiki (^_^)

Ima trying to do the jumping pose. Whattaa.

Again, the monkeys went back to their mission. Not enough chaos on the land, they climbed the tree. What a sight (-.-)

The sami-wanabe monkey (-_-)

Then the 2 monkeys continued their mission on the land. But they never expected their 'monkey'ness had attract a foreign tourist to approach them. Totally unexpected. He then stood up and walked towards them and..

... To be continued. Penat dah!

P/S : Total expenses so far - RM86

Outward Bound School

Alhamdulillah, aku dipanjangkan umur untuk menaip blog lagi setelah lame bercuti. Hohe. Sepanjang 3 minggu kat rumah, aku tolong rumah siapkan persiapan untuk majlis kahwin Kak Ida. Da habis majlis, kene setelkan rumah pulak. Akibat badan aku ni terlalu dimanjakan oleh tuannya sendiri kat UTP agaknya, aku kalah dengan kepenatan. Aku demam~ Huhu. Tapi aku lawan jugak.. siap ajak mak keluar lagi time2 demam tu.

. Muahaha!

20 Jun
Hari pertama di OBS. Tertarik dengan pemandangan tepi pantainya. Pada sebelah siangnya, kami berkumpul mengikut watch masing2 untuk menyerahkan barang2 seperti handphone, duit, wallet, IC and other elctronic gadgets kat instructor. For the whole 1 week we were not allowed to contact our family except for urgent matters. Pada malamnya pula kami berkenalan sesama ahli kumpulan. Watch aku terdiri daripada 6 perempuan n 8 lelaki. Sebelum ni di UTP aku sesama ahli watch perempuan yg lain kenal gitu2 aje while for the boys, I only knew one of them. So OBS ni dapat mengeratkan silaturrahim sesama kami.

21 Jun
Pada sebelah pagi kami diberi latihan berkayak. Seronok rasanya kali pertama sentuh air laut setelah berkurun lama tak cecah kaki kat laut. Huhu.

Aku nampak kaki aku tersangkut tapi panik sangat sampai tak tau nak wat ape.

Hoho. Alhamdulillah, aku berjaya naik kayak semula pastu. Hohe. Tapi, amek masajugak nak chill down. Maklumlah, first time pergi tengah laut! Hohe. Cuak2~

Petangnya, kami berkayak kira2 8km menuju campsite pertama iaitu Pantai Syawal. Kat situlah kali pertama aku merasa pengalaman mandi dengan air telaga yang dicedok sendiri, buang air bukan dekat jamban, mandi tak sempurna, n macam2 lagi lah. Rasa sengasara sangat takde toilet. Huhu. Tapi lama kelamaan aku da tak kisah da. Huhu~ Malam tu kami bermalam kat campsite tu. Angin malam kat tepi pantai memang masyuk. Aku tido lena sungguh.

22 Jun
Bangun dekat pukul 5 pagi, kami sama2 siapkan breakfast untuk pagi tu. Then solat subuh berjemaah. Best sangat pemandangan waktu solat berjemaah kat tepi pantai. Dengan berlatar belakangkan pokok kelapa, gelap, tapi terlihat beberapa barisan jemaah lurus mengikut gerakan imam. Indah sangat2. Tapi sayang, aku tak bawak n takde camera.

Hehe. Bangga gila la weyh~
Baki ari tu, kami tak banyak sangat aktiviti. So dapatla peluang untuk berehat~

23 Jun
So sekali lagi aku rasa bertuah sbb dapat belajar guna whaler ni.

By the way, kami tidaklah berlayar memandangkan perjalanan kami melawan arah angin. So nak tak nak, terpaksa mendayung. Tapi disebabkan kami 14 orang sama2 meggembleng tenaga, tidaklah rasa sangat penatnya. Pengalaman mengelilingi Pulau Pangkor memang mengasyikkan. Pantainya bersih, airnya jernih. Memang sesuaila Pulau Pangkor tu dijadikan antara destinasi pelancongan utama kat Malaysia ni. Subhanallah, memang cantik. Cantiknya takleh diungkap dengan kata2. Nak tunjuk gamba pun takde, so mintak maaf la kat kamu2 semua. Huhu. Perjalanan ke campsite mengambil masa hampir 5 jam so sempatlah kami berzohor kat campsite. Siang tu kami lepak sikit sebab da bawak pack lunch dari OBS so tak payah bersusah payah nak memasak. Hohe.

Malamnya, kami lepak dengan Abang Fadzli dok bercerita kisah hantu. So macam2 la kisah hantu yang kami dengar malam tu. Huhu.

26 Jun
Bangun pagi, baju aku dipenuhi bau asap. Nyampah tol. Tapi takpelah, yang penting nyamuk tak kacau. Huhu. Kemudian kami terus bersiap untuk pulang. Siapkan breakfast, solat subuh, breakfast and pastu terus bersiap2 untuk balik OBS.

Naik2 bas, radio mengumumkan kematian Michael Jackson. Aku ingat aku salah dengar aku pun tak rase pape~ Lagipun aku bukanla fan beliau pun~ Bile balik uma Kak Nim, adik angkat Michael Jackson kelihatan sedih dengan kematian abang angkatnya itu. Insan yg dimaksudkan adela abang ipar aku ni~

Abg Fir n Arif melakonkan watak Alex n Melman~

P/S :

1) Benjol kat dahi - terkena paddle kayak orang dgn momentum gila2 kuat
2) Kaki terseliuh - terjatuh kat cerun bukit dorm Jerai
3) Kaki luka - kes sama mcm kat atas
4) Lebam banyak kat kaki - mula2 aku ingat antu pelesit isap darah aku, upe2nye kaki aku banyak terhantuk bnde tanpa disedari~
