Boyfriend vs Robot

Dulu dalam team Robocon ni pernah kecoh kisah sorang member ni break dengan awek die sebab awek die ni rase bf die tu kurang bagi perhatian kat die sebab sibuk dengan robot. Aha, yakin gile si member tu pilih robot over awek sendiri. Komen aku? Gile banzai~

Dan hari tu waktu tengah mendesign2, macam biase kitorang berborak, dan termasuk pulak topik tinggalkan bf/gf sebab robot. Aha, menarik bukan topik tu? Hangat macam tahi gitu. Suam2 kuku. Aku pun pasang tlinge je memandangkan aku sorang je pempuan dalam ramai2 budak teknikal kelab ni. Tak brani nak komen hal2 gini. Hehee. Tibe2 kedengaran satu suara berbunyi

"Fad, hang nanti kalau bf hang suruh pilih dia atau robot, hang pilih robot taw" dan dibalas dengan gelak stail syaiton bebudak lain. Aku tersengih je, aku cakap "Hehe. Okee".

*************************************

Bile difikir balik kisah2 yang aku cite kat atas ni, aku rase ramai je budak yang ade masalah ni dengan balaks/aweks memasing. Sebabnye, aku pun pernah merase jugak bende ni. Untuk senang cite, kite ikut kronologi la yeo.

Pertengahan 2008
Waktu ni aku baru first year. Muda dan menggoda (perasan je). Bile kelab robot sini bukak member recruitment, aku pegi. Aku ingat recruitment tu takat inteview biase je, rupe2nye die nak cakap yang kalo nak join, kau kene pego (pegi) robot training waktu cuti sem, 3 minggu. Haih. Aku tak pikir banyak, aku terus sign up maka di situlah titik permulaan episod hidup aku balik UTP awal tiap kali cuti. Keputusan join kelab robot ni aku buat dengan balak aku (kami sangat mementingkan persetujuan bersama).

Waktu training tu, memang salu la balik lambat. Time tu koman2 pun balik pukul 1 pagi. Time ni makin berlambaklah kes gaduh kitorang. Banyak kali jugak perceraian berlaku (hehe) tapi banyak kali jugak kejadian rujuk smule berlaku (hehehehe macam la korang tak penah buwaatttt. ingat aku tatau kee)

2009
Bende yang same jadi. Cerai rujuk cerai rujuk putus sambung putus sambung berkali2 sampai la kitorang nak naik muntah sebab banyak gadoh pasal hal ni. Mampu je malam ni gaduh sebab aku balik dari lab lambat, esok pagi dah ok daahh. Cume die pesan lah, "Pasni jangan buat lagi, jangan balik lambat lagi bla bla bla" tapi aku tetap buat jugak. Bagi aku robot ni tahap susa nak lepaskan die same tahap dengan susah nak lepaskan balak. Thats why bende2 yang die pesan aku tu tak penah berkesan kat aku. Tiap kali aku balik lambat, aku akan rase lega kalau die tido awal. Sebabnye, die ni kalo tido lambat asyikla dok msg aku tanye "da balik?". Haihhh rase bersalah kat robot ade, kat die pun ye jugak. Dan aku biarkan je hari2 berlalu saaampaila team UTP Syntium menang 2nd runner up Robocon 2009 aritu. Alhamdulillah, walaupun bukan team aku yang menang (hanye disebabkan bateri robot buat hal di saat2 akhir iskkk33)

Banyak kali jugak die suruh aku quit keje dengan robot tu, tapi aku tak tau nape aku tak boleh cakap "Ok i'll quit". Sangatlah susah. Bukan sebab aku seronok balik lambat. Tiap kali die suruh aku quit, aku just kate "Tak boleh" without bagi reason. Kadang2 die emo, kadang2 die semacam give up dengan diri aku yang tu.

So, payahkan kalau kau jadi aku? And aku rase awek si member tu mesti rase bende yang same macam balak aku rase. Cume awek si member tu fragile sikitlah (maklumlah, pempuan kaan)

Akhir 2009
Sekali lagi, aku kene balik awal. Encik balak kate "Tak payahla balik. Da salu sangat balik awal time cuti. Mase untuk famile mane?". Betul jugak kate die tu. Next sem-break aku dapat duduk rumah dalam 1/2 minggu je sebab da start intern. So, ni la cuti panjang terkahir aku kat rumah. But once again, i said "Tak boleh. I chose to commit so kene commit. Nak jadi responsible" so die pun merelakan buat kali yang entah ke berape.

2010

Aku tau perasaan tu.

Tapi day by day, die start bebaskan aku. Die biarkan aku dengan tanggungjawab aku. Die dah jarang merajuk. Die dah tak reti merajuk snanye. And he's ok with that. Aku yang buat die jadi camtu. Ahh mungkin kami terlalu kanak2 sebelum ni. Nakkan perhatian dan berteman tiap mase. But we're now grown ups, aren't we syg? So sekarang ni kami decide to go steady. "...Baliklah pukul bape kau nak, yang penting jage diri. Pergilah spend mase puas2 dengan kawan, nanti kau kawin dengan aku kau tak boleh buat camtu dah..."

Syg, I know that u're my silent reader, and within this silence I want you to know that the word 'appreciate' will never be enough to reflect my real feeling inside. Sorry for I've hurted you before. Sorry for not being there when you need me the most. And I want you to know that love is not the only feeling I feel for you.

I love the way we get everything discussed, even for a simple matter. And kite same2 jadi matang. I don't care if you tell me my words here sangatlah tak touching, tapi yang penting syg tau. Thanx for being understanding. Thanx for making me laugh. Thanx jugak sebab habiskan tekak bby time kite gaduh dalam kete tu (haha kenangan pahit tengking boyfren kuat2 sampai orang kete sebelah boleh dengar). Mekaseh sebab jadi KIUT inside out. Thanx for those cute stuffs. Thanx for being one part of my life. Thanx for everything.

Pride & Joy

Robocon 2009 Introduction

Each team needs to build 3 robots; 1 manual (Manual Carrier) and 2 autonomous robots, with each named Auto-Traveller and Auto-Carrier. The manual robot and the Auto-Carrier robot would carry a palanquin with the Auto-Traveller placed on it.

They have to travel together climbing the obstacle called Mountain Pass; a 20° inclination path and they have to get down from the Mountain safely to continue the journey. The next obstacle would be the a series of 3 poles, representing the Woods.

The Woods

After succeed crossing the Woods, the Auto-Traveller would be alightened and it is required to hit the drums provided. When a checkpoint is passed, points will be given and the highest points would be at the drum zone (we call it goal zone). If you manage to hit all of the 3 drums, you'll get 100 point and the that's how the game ends!

2 different ways to hit the drums.

This game actually adopts the Japanese transportation system during the old days. The palanquin used in the game is called Kago and that's the term that we use.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The most awaited time had come, where all of the hardwork would be tested in 3 minutes games. From July 4th to July 10th, when most of UTPians were struggling for their final exams, all of the Petrobots member had to sacrifice their study-week for this big competition. It's a tough test for all of us; having an unnegligible competition in the week just right before the exams start. Not to let myself getting mentally stressed, I told myself that this competition would be a vacation for all of us to get rid all of the fears inside.

UTP sent 2 teams to compete in Robocon 2009; UTP Mach 5 and UTP Syntium and I'm in Mach 5 (was, still and forever). Half of Petrobots members departed on July 4th while the rest departed on 7th. My name was in the 7th group so I had some times to do revision for my finals (I spent these times only for Dimensional Analysis ookk). It was a hell-like vacation as I had to pack my notes and books along. I couldn't actually imagine myself revising my notes in a stadium with of course, the noisy crowd but still, I just brought the notes along lah.

The journey to Shah Alam seemed so long with my bad coughs :( And worse, we missed the match between UTP Mach 5 and TakTauApe. Tapi takpelah, UTP Mach 5 scored 98 points in that match and was announced as the winner ;)

Semangat kesukanan wakil UTP

Mach 5 had given the best shots during the preliminary round but it somehow didn't have the luck to be entitled for the quarter final due to some technical problem encountered in the last match. It was so frustrating seeing your robot which you'd just checked the batteries but it suddenly failed to operate when the match started!

Frustrated UTP Mach 5.

And our last hope lies upon UTP Syntium which managed to go for the quarter final...

In the quarter final, UTP Syntium went against USM and I tell you what, the game was hell-like sengit! We scored 25 points with no violation while USM was left with 4 points behind. Ku panjatkan kesyukuran pada Tuhan! Both UTP Syntium and USM teams arrived at the same checkpoints but the only difference was that UTP Syntium didn't have any violations done! Kalo ade violation, kene tolak 2 markah tiap 1 kesalahan! Isk isk isk...

In the semi final match, UTP Syntium went against MMU Roboforce. Kalo sebut MMU, sume orang gerun. They have the most reliable mechanism for their robots. But I can't understand the mechanism of the robots as the are toooooo complicated! Memang tabik 360° la kat budak2 MMU tu..

Seperti yang diramal, we lost to MMU :) But never mind lah, we lost to the champion maa. Its a GREAT HONOR for us to lose against MMU. Haha! MMU is like legend in Robocon. So, loosing against them is something that will make us smile. Kenangan manis lah senang cakap!

Then in the final match, MMU Cyberjaya went against MMU Melaka. Abang lawan Adik bak kate MC tu but of course la Abang menang! :D UTP won 3rd place. The best achievement gained in its history in Robocon and I'm very proud being one of the team!

Inilah kami yang excited dapat no. 3. Mengalahkan orang yang menang 1st place! =D

We Are The WINNER!

Visit from Prof Mariaudeau

For the last few days, I've been logging in to my blogger account, clicking on the NEW POST button, and when the blank column appeared, I stared for a while, and simply pushed the X button for the tab. I just didn't know what to write!

Since I'd just got the pics from Mayo, now I can write la. Hihihi.

Last Sunday we had a visit from Prof Mariaudeau of Université de Bourgogne. He was actually here for a visit to UTP, and not us the Robocon members. But since he is also a friend of Dr Naufal's, he was invited to give us a talk on the special masters course offered by his university. Here goes the details on the programe:

1) Named Masters in Computer Vision and Robotics (VIBOT).
2) A collaboration between the Universitat de Girona (Spain), the Université de Bourgogne (France), Heriot Watt University (Scotland), where the collaboration is named Erasmus Mundus (click on the link to view the list of programmes offered).
3) A two-year programme, with each semester you'll be in DIFFERENT country and of course DIFFERENT university. For the final semester, you'll be doing your internship.

Listening to his talk made me grateful to be in Robocon Team cause there's no other way that I can see the beauty of robotics and also for having the chance to see the opportunity ahead. I've always been worrying and thinking of my Final Year Project as I wanna do something that really contributes to my industry (ayat mcm dlm CV je). Something new and an eye-opener. So, I'd think about think it, and I already have it written in my organizer (thanx to ESU Petronas) ;) It's simply a combination of my interests; robotics and petroleum engineering. So, can you read my mind? ;)

This was during the night, in the Robolab. Had a good day that day, for we laughed a lot on his jokes. Lucky for the boys, they even spent the rest of the night watching MU-Arsenal match at kedai mamak! If I were one of the boys and a fan of Arsenal, I'd rather support MU that night for he got no other MU supporters on that night! :p

What It's Like to Be in Other's Shoe?

"...Hi it's me again The Clown of Yours. Firstly I don't understand why are your shoes too big. It's like my fist can also fit in the shoe, along with my kaki. And still got space here and there. Second, I don't understand why there must be a very unwanted smell intrudes the creepy holes of my nose as I take them off..."

Last week I received an email from the Robocon publication department with 3 attachments; a compilation of the Roboblitz draft (Roboblitz is our official bulletin) and I nearly cried seeing the pictures in the bulletin~

These two pictures are actually the consequences of THIS.

It breaks my heart seeing all those two pics cause I wanted to be in those pics as well. I want to have a pic where you can find my face and Tun's in the same pic; though I know that the pic will be a little bit weird cause you will find a girl smiling with the tips of her lips meet together-gether (and the girl would be me). Hm.. Can you feel what I feel?

I was tooooo desperate to have a picture with Tun. So I decided to take a picture of me and him when he last visited UTP to give a public lecture. So here it is!

There.

There.

Can you see?

Me and Tun?

Well if you can't, you have to know this:

1) Your are half-blinded.
2) Your brain is not that efficient to interpret something subjective, creative and artistic.
3) You can't fit my shoes very the well.

And I feel sorry for your DISABILITY.

Express Update

It's been a while since my last update. I was tooo busy with this and that, got no time even to turn on my Winamp playlist. So here's the very SHORT update for y'all.

V5 Iftar, Sept 24

Dr Naufal had once suggested us the V5SR members to organize this event as for him, providing food for others is something mulia. Well it's not only for him, everyone does know this. So I challenged myself to try it though I have no experience in organizing such an event before. There were only 4 committees working for this Iftar, with 1 that comes and go (I would say this as VANISH, AND NEVER COME AGAIN. Sorry if you happen to read my blog, but you're treating us unfair)

Back to story. The THREE of us did everything from head to toe (ape ni?) from JB to Kangar. We did look for some donation in Taman Maju, but we somehow didn't collect the donation :) Nga3. Din, Shiha and me sometimes feel lazy-lazy to work on it but thanks to Dr Naufal and Mr Irwanshah who never gave up forcing us :) And Alhamdulillah, we managed to work on it till the end. Most of the V5 residents attended the Iftar and I was very happy to see that. We had ayam, daging, sayur-sayur, bubur lambuk, kuih-muih and sirap. Thanks to Allah, for making this Iftar running smoothly :)

And really forgot to cakap, I was the one who did the poster design :)

Robot on the Road : Sept 8&9

My current interest, robots. We had external exhibitor with us during this 2 days event, which was from Cytron. Cytron is our provider for Robocon, specializing in circuitry and electronics. We bought our motor drivers, circuit board, motors and other appliances from them. I was too excited seeing the new robots (to me) that they brought, complete with enhanced technologies. I owhed and wowed for many times during their robot demo; feels like requesting y'all one for my birthday present :D I really want that robot. That WALkINg RoBoT.

Here are the robots from Cytron. Intelligent and smart. The walking robot is the biggest one while the smallest is the most intelligent.

In front of the exhibition room - people got the chance to try my team's robot :)

We also had RoboRace :)

Interested? Come and join us! :)

COMING UPs...........

V5 Artfest

Currently working on the prizes and evaluation. We had more than 100 entries for both photo and short film. 4 days to go.

V5 Raya Fiesta

Currently working on the promotions. As the secretary, I have to arrange the schedule; who's gonna take in charge for the booth, who's to monitor. But sadly most of the times I had another important thing to do so I can't help them much with the promotion. Sorry for not being there, but deep inside I'm hoping that I'll get to know my other committees :)

R-Play 2 : The Challenge

It's been a while since I last updated this blog as I was waiting for the R-Play 3 pictures from Awang. But the UTP server is always damn slow and I can't even download even a single simple document in my emails without clicking the 'Reload' button for hundred times.

It IS frustrating. I missed merepek and cium-cium my blog. Tapi takpe. I already have the pics ;) Thanx to NAJIB yang sangat-sangat sabar transfer kat aku SUME gambar malam lepas :)

We were given bout 3 weeks lebih sikit to fabricate 2 autonomous and 1 manual robot. Damn crazy. With lectures and other commitments, it sounds impossible to finish fabricating all robots in just 3 weeks lebih sikit. But with the courage that all of my group members have, we managed to finish the robot in time (though we once had Dr Naufal stay with us during the night just to make sure that our robot is working).

But that is what he is; he wants us to be the best. Hm. Back to story. For this R-Play, we have 4 groups with 12-14 members in each group. Half of the group will do the structure and mechanism of the robot while the rest will do the programming and so forth.

But, unluckily (luckily, I'd say), our programmers had a new challenge awaited them : they had to fabricate THEIR OWN SENSORS. It's not just challenging, it's a killing challenge. But my team mates never gave up on their sensors. Najib for instance, spent 2 days to have his sensor working. 2 days is too much for 3 weeks! His great efforts paid him a lot as we managed to have a well-working robot with his sensor :)

Here's the gamefield for the last R-Play 3.

Just to make my explanation brief and short, the manual robot has to shoot all of the cans on the table while the other 2 autonomous robots have to be in the gamefiled, collect all of the checkpoints and score more points by doing the assigned task, which is to place the yellow cube into the tower-with-bowl. :)

During the fabricating period, here are some of the problems that my group had faced:
-The sensors weren't working well; which made our autonomous robot went out of track most of the times.
-The string that we used for the lifting mechanism broke EASILY.
-It's hard to aim for the targeted cans as our shooting mechanism uses the projectile motion. Do you get what I mean?

But did we overcome the problems successfully? Read the next post :)

R-Play 2 : The Clash of the Titans Begins

Nervous.

Who won't feel nervous for this big day?

Of course la all the robots won't kan. Har har har :)) Funny la you ni Fad!

Be serious. Back to story. For the preliminary round, our group won the first place (hooray!)

All 3 robots worked very very well and we scored big big points.

For the very big day of R-Play 3, aku malas nak cite panjang. Ape yang pasti, fo rthe final match, we beat our opponent 47-0. Lain-lain cite, korang tengok gambar je lah ok?

From left : Awang (not a robot), Autonomous B with gripping and lifting mechanism, and Autonomous A with sayap mechanism at starting zone.

This is the manual robot. I worked on it :)

This is a part of our manual robot. It has a raga to place the ball :)

This is the controller (green) for the manual robot. Believe it or not, we fabricate it ourselves. I did the cutting for the casing. I made the hole for the buttons :) And this is really a unique design for a controller :) Ever seen this in the market? ;)

This was when our Autonomous B (the one with lifting and gripping mechanism) succeeded to place the yellow cube into the pot :) See, everybody was clapping :)

Right after being announced as the first prize winner :)

Bawak robot hirup udara segar kat luar lab after match. Diorang tak pernah jalan-jalan kat luar lab so that day was their pay day. Hehe :)

Feels like going crazy-crazy after 3 weeks of loads of works :)

Robocon Training : R-Play 1

Note : SHE and HER in this post is never referred to ANYBODY. It is the robot. The Pom Pom Bot.

It has been 2 weeks since I last jumped-for my robot during the R-Play 1. Her performance was really smooth and perfect though she missed its track once. We didn't know what caused the miss-track. Once she went out of the track, she hit the border of the gamefield. Durhh. All that we could do was keep shouting at the robot-though we all know that the robot has no intelligence in detecting voice and sounds. One of the judges wanted to switch off the robot, but all of my team mates insisted on letting the robot to keep going though the robot seemed like pening-pening lalat already. But somehow she managed to find its track back. Seriously, it was a miracle. A GREAT MIRACLE. You won't have the idea how relieved we were at that time. But unluckily, we lost in that semi-final round. Quite frustrating, but what can I say kann. It was all about LUCK. The wings were out of the finishing zone and because of this, the judges decided that our robot IS OUT OF THE ZONE. Demit. I've jumped half mad half soul (separuh gila separuh nyawa) as our robot entered the finishing zone. But the not-so-blessed wings ruined everything. I suddenly hated the robot. Why are you so stupid Pom Pom Bot? Can't you see the line? (Fado is blaming herself actually. Not the Pom Pom Bot) We never thought that the 'blessed' wings would give us a so-called bad and silly luck.

Then it came the time to have the 3rd and 4th winner. My team mates and I were really nervous. Winning the third place was greatly enough for Pom Pom Bot-the only female robot in the R-Play 1. But we were worried of the wings. This time, we won't let it happen again. So we decided to let the robot to collect all of the checkpoints using the wings, and then asked for a RETRY from the judges. We use this retry just to reach the finishing zone, and the most important thing was : we would have the wings unspreaded during this RETRY. How did we do this? We tightened the screw of the wings, so that the wings will keep folded till it reached the finishing zone. But do you know what silly thing the robot did this time? The front wing got unfolded! Durh! I was really angry at her. Yela yela I know it was our fault for not tightening (really really tight) the screw, but what can I say kann. It was all about LUCK. Seeing the front wing unfolded, I already felt the frustration. Really. Frustrated. I bit my nails, looked down at my feet, reluctant to witness the moment of frustration. But the enthusiasm and the cheer of the audience made me took a glimpse at the robot. She was entering the finishing zone. I can't help myself but to watch the might-be-moment-of-frustration. Apa nak jadi, jadilah. As the robot finished entering the zone, she suddenly got stucked! She got stucked! She got stucked! Believe me, everybody was cheering of relief. Of course, my team mates and I were jumping as if we won the first place.

But friends, the game was not over yet. Our rival weren't done yet. They used the same strategies as ours; collect the checkpoints and use RETRY to reach the finishing zone. But they were unlucky as their path was the path where our robot had dropped the blocker. Blocker is something that is used to block the rival's robot. But friends, I'm proud to say that my group's blocker is the ONLY blocker that worked well in the R-Play. Other groups' blocker were so easy to overcome. But not ours. Our blocker was really heavy; and it was not just heavy. We placed an anti-slip mat at the bottom of the blocker. And our blocker was a solid, heavy metal. Can you imagine how heavy the blocker is? With the help of the anti-slip mat, jangan haraplah robot lain yang langgar blocker tu dapat gerak. Then our opponent's robot got stucked lah. Kesian kat diorang, but what can I say kann. It was all about LUCK.

I nearly cried of happiness when the judge announced our group as the 3rd place winner. But one thing yang aku terkilan is : aku tak dapat bagi hi-5 kat team mates aku yg lain. Yelah. Diorang laki. Diorang dok peluk-peluk sebab happy, aku just tengok and senyum lebar je. Kesian kat aku kan?

Here was where our robot went pening-pening lalat.

This was my team's starting zone.

This is how the robot looks like when the wings are folded.

Pom Pom Bot with unfolded wings. The front wing was the one that made us lost in semi-final.

Robocon Training : Lecture & Fabricating

20 Jun, KL - Bangun pagi seawal jam 630. Hu. Sungguh berasak-asak. Then aku sampai Pudu dalam kol 9 camtu. Amek tiket kol 1030pg. Aku cari port, duduk, and perhatikan orang sekeliling. Seronok.

And beliau adela rumet aku sepanjang training program ni.

22 Jun, UTP - Malam tu para trainer dan trainee sume berkumpul buat pertama kalinya. We had briefing and ice breaking. Turut dibawa ko RoboLab. Aku agak excited malam tu sebab tu kali pertama aku masuk RoboLab; satu tempat yang aku selalu lalu waktu nak gi kelas, and wonder apa isinya.

Damn seronok. Having your 2D drawing in 3D. So cool! Belajar AutoCAD buat aku rasa beruntung sangat-sangat join Robocon Team ni. Kami turut diberikan pendedahan lain such as how to build your robot base. How should you design your base. Which one is stable and which one is not. Here is where I can apply my Statics & Dynamics knowledge. I understand what I had learnt before more clearly. I can see better of WHY and HOW. Think that I should have joined the team long ago kan?. Haih.

One more thing. I had the chance to enter th Manufacturing Lab which most of my course mates hadn't! In this Manufacturing Lab, we made the couplers for our robot (coupler is used to join your wheel and motor side by side). As we have 2 wheels for our robot, we had to make 2 couplers. From a cylindrical-shaped steel, we finally managed to turn it into this shape :

Coupler in AutoCAD design. It took us 2 days to finish these 2 5cm couplers.

As the 5 days were over, we started to design our robot. We had a few designs but we finally determined on a design which we thought could bring us the highest possibility of winning. We are the GREEDY team. Why? Coz we're all boys IF I were a boy. Hoho. (Life in UTP is always like this. Being the only girl in the team no matter how big your team is) I'm the only girl in this 8-member team. I really hate this. However, I do sometimes like this situation as they will offer themselves to do this and that. But they didn't offer actually. They insisted.

I like it when we started to fabricate our robot. Doing all of these things-measuring, cutting, drilling etc. was fun. Believe me, I can do it all though my hands are weak. I was very proud when I had the workpiece being cut accurately and nicely using the meter saw-which makes a loud noise when you do the cuttings (the first-timers always get shocked of it-just like me). But one day is enough to make me used to it. I bravely successfully operate the machine-without the unwanted noise. Bravo Fado!

About 5 days working in the RoboLab with Rozi, Shakir and Faiz, we finally managed to have our robot standing before us. We were the first group to complete the fabricating process. Really proud of that. It's now the time for our group programmers to do the programming and the most important is, to have our robot move just like what we have planned before.

Now people, presenting... our first robot! Hehe

Some people said that our robot looks like a ship. Haha. Whateverla.

We're going to make our robot to be in red. 10& complete. Heheh

This AR40B board by Cytron costs about RM500. It's not ours, by the way. It really helps our programmers.

This driver is also by Cytron.

Next event : R-Play 1, July 14.
